Hi everyone! Update time!!
My squad
I am a part of T squad!! We have 14 people on the field! My team leaders are Marissa and Jerome and my squad mentor is Areonah! My squad coaches are Mike and Charlene. They will be joining us for our debriefs in Guatemala and Indonesia! I am so grateful for our leadership team! They are so in tune with the Lord and intentional with us. The wisdom and love that overflows out of them onto us is such a blessing! My team is amazing! So many God-fearing individuals called to the same mission I was! We all connect so well and have so much fun together. I already have such a special place in my heart for each and every one of them.
Training camp
Training camp was 10 days and one of the hardest things I’ve done. You are being prepared for life on the field in third world countries, however you are still living in America on their base in Georgia. Weird feeling. Living in our tents, no bathrooms, bucket showers, bucket laundry, and on top of that home sickness. The days were long, hard, and jam packed with devotionals, worship, prayer, and sessions. Our sessions consisted of topics like forgiveness, The Holy Spirit, pursuing truth, feedback, cultural differences, our God as a missionary God, identity, knowing God by revelation, and The Sabbath. Training camp included several other groups launching for missions. Some for 3 months, some for 9 months, and some for 11 months. I met so many amazing people. It was so inspiring to be surrounded by over 200 individuals with hearts on fire for the Lord, all going to different countries to proclaim the gospel. Training camp alone was so formative for me and reiterated Gods faithfulness again and again.
Time in Honduras
Finally…after long anticipation, my squad and I arrived in Honduras on September 7th!! (it felt like the day would never come) It took us a plane and long bus ride to get here but we made it! We are partnering with Catratcho missionaries and staying on their property. Everyone from Catratcho is amazing! So hospitable and welcoming. A great team doing great things. We on currently living out of our tents on their farm on a mountain about 30 minutes outside of the city of Comayagua. Honduras, the mountains, the sky is all so beautiful and constantly remind me of how great our God is.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
Psalm 121:1-2
Our first few days here were spent learning about the culture of the mountain. Honduras is Catholicism dominated, synchronized with old tribal traditions. Physical and sexual abuse is extremely common within families. Lots of girls are not allowed to read a bible after they get their period because there are seen as impure. Many girls have their first baby by 14. Many times if women want to come to Christ it would mean being kicked out of their home and disowned by their family’s. Families all along the mountain are malnourished, struggling financially, and sick. Everyday I am reminded how we are designed to have and need a savior.
We do ministry 5 days a week and have a sabbath and an adventure day + ATL. ATL (ask the Lord) allows for our ministry to look different depending on what the Lord is calling us to do or where He is calling us to go. We also go to the city for a couple hours on adventure day. Our days are long, typically 12-15 hours. We wake up early (the roosters and donkeys make sure of it) and go to sleep late. We’re doing our ministry through manual labor, house visits, children’s VBS, school visits, and women’s ministry. In addition to ministry, we also are doing devotionals, worship, and team debriefs. The property we are staying on hosts events for children frequently, hosts VBS days, and hosts a weekly women’s ministry program that we have been able to be a part of. The women come and have an opportunity to hear a teaching, have a time for testimonies, and prayer. They are also taught life skills like sewing and cooking.
