Hi everyone! I am so excited to update you! So much is happening here in Honduras.
My first few weeks in Honduras were heavily focused on manual labor. And although we were involved in kids and womenโs ministry, I have been praying for more opportunities to share the gospel and interact with people. This week that prayer has been answered. Praise God.
On Saturday, Catratcho Missions had a VBS day for all the kids on the mountain. We invited the kids as we did house visits the days prior. We were expecting 280 kids. Leading up to this event we spent so much time preparing; making piรฑatas, decorating the property, and makingย food. A lot of kids here are malnourished so we wanted to spoil them and not only send them home with full bellies, but send them home with enough to share or have later. So we were making 2 sandwiches per kid, plates of rice and beans, bags of popcorn, bags of soy chips (I was in charge of cooking the soy chips and hot oil splashed in my eyes, almost killing me) bags of juice, candy, cake, everything! Our total head count at the end of the event was 706 people! One story constantly on my mind during this event was Jesus feeding the 5000. It was so chaotic but SO fun! Saturday demonstrated so beautifully how God abundantly provides for us.
This week we visited 3 schools! Every school we visited the kids were amazing! They had so much energy and were such good listeners. I LOVE them SO MUCH! My heart was SO FULL! We would have a Bible story with a skit (Iโve been Esther and Jesus), a Bible verse and song, a craft, a game, and of course a snack! Bread and juice!! We also do fun VBS songs and dances with the kids before and after.
We hiked and prayed over a new property Catracho Missions has recently bought. Their hope for this new piece of land is to build houses for incoming nomadic missionary families to stay in while they do their missionary work here in Honduras. The next missionaries who come in after my squad will start that project.
Yesterday, my squad and I were up at 6am (early morning๐ฅฑ) for a quick breakfast and then we were driven to the top of the tallest mountain in Honduras! We spent the whole day walking down this mountain doing house visits. I loved this so much! We got to meet and pray over so many people. (I got 20,000 steps!) We ate our lunch on the side of the mountain, in the rain. On this mountain, a lot of people are catholic. Although Catholicism is very different in Honduras. Almost everyone knows who Jesus is, they believe He came as a baby in a manger and died on the cross. The gospel we are sharing with these people is that Jesus did not stay on the cross. He did not stay in the grave. He rose and is a living, reigning God in heaven, and He will come back one day.
